SERDANG: The three-day Design, Research and Innovation Exhibition 2011, organised by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), will showcase some 570 exhibits.
The exhibition, which begins on Tuesday, will feature agriculture, food, forestry and environment, health, science, technology, engineering and social science products.
It will be held at the university's Pusat Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (research and innovation) Prof Ir Dr Mohd Saleh Jaafar said the exhibition would showcase UPM's successful researches and findings.
The exhibition was first held in 1997 and was then known as the Exhibition and Seminar Harnessing for Industry Advantage.
Its growing success prompted the university to make the exhibition an annual event.
In 2002, the exhibition was re-named Design and Research Exhibition and was based on a competition concept that involved the university's researchers.
The Design, Research and Innovation Exhibition was launched in 2005 and this year's theme is "The Commercialisation of Innovation Towards a Smart Economy and Community Wellbeing".
"With UPM's status as a research university, this year's exhibition is the largest to be organised. It is done with a stronger aspiration. We want to be the platform for researchers to put forward their work and latest findings to the public.
"The exhibition also hopes to serve as a benchmark for quality research that would propel the university to greater heights," said Saleh.
